It seems like everywhere I go, I’m seeing High School Music. The phenomenon has grown to epic proportions, as seen by the frenzy over both movies and merchandising. Here’s your chance to see it live, as performed by the Youth Theater at Patel Conservatory on Thurs., May 21 and Fri., May 22 in Ferguson Hall.
Two productions of Disney’s High School Musical will be performed:
The Patel Conservatory Youth Theater Company, Jr., consisting of students in grades two through six, will perform the show Thurs., May 21, at 7 p.m.
The Patel Conservatory Youth Theater Company, consisting of students in grades six through 12, will perform the show Fri., May 22, at 7 p.m.
Under the direction of Emilia Sargent, High School Musical features favorite song and dance numbers such as “Start of Something New,” “We’re All in This Together,” “Bop to the Top” and “Breaking Free.”
These 72 young performers auditioned and began rehearsing in September for this show, which struck such a chord in American youth in its movie version and is now being produced for the stage.
“To have a stage version, performed by children and teenagers, is an amazing opportunity. They get to perform the songs that they have memorized from watching the movie. And it’s also great for young audience members to see their peers taking on such a current and relevant show that they can relate to and understand,” said Wendy Leigh, vice president of education and humanities at TBPAC.
Regularly priced tickets are $10-$20 in advance and $12-$25 day of show and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the TBPAC Ticket Office or online at TBPAC.ORG.
