I think I’m breaking this story (is this even a story?), but it’s worth mentioning.
Checker’s Drive-In, my closest fast food double-drive-thru heart-attack-on-a-bun is now offering 5 flavors of wings. Asking if this is just something they are doing for the superbowl, they assure me that this is “our new promotion, likely to last atleast a month.”
Of course, I had to try them.
They’re not bad, to be honest. Similar to Wing Street or Hooters. Nothing special, but not bad either. The Angry Sauce Wings, a.k.a “hot wings” are actually pretty hot. Not habanero hot, but hot enough that you’ll remember them a half hour after eating them. I’ll try the other flavors throughout the week. They sell for 10/$6.

I tried the honey BBQ wings. They were pretty good. Great honey BBQ flavor. My only disappointment is there was not enough sauce. They stated they use one pump from the sauce dispencer per four wings. Additional sauce is .30 cents.

I broke down and went to the Checkers in Carrollwood on Dale Mabry and ordered the angry buffalo wings and to my surprise, they were actually good! They were meaty and had plenty of sauce. What sucked was that if you want ranch or blue cheese, it costs an additional .39 cents. I’m wondering if celery and/or carrots comes with the ranch or blue cheese.
Anyway, I was surprised they were good. I really was expecting them to be horrible. I will be getting them again from that Checkers location.

Gefilte – You’re absolutely right. The one checkers next to me is great. Wings are crisp, lots of sauce. They really seem to get it right.
The one in Lakeland (about 25 miles from here)is atrocious. Wings are greasy and mushy, not enough sauce, not a lot of meat, etc.

I was curious if the wings were good at Checkers or not. I guess I will have to try them. I’m sure it’s hit or miss depending on what location that you go to. I know with Beef O’ Brady’s, one restaurant’s wings will kick ass and another location will not be so good.

Dan – They’re not bad. I’ve now tried all 5 flavors. The Angry Sauce is my favorite, followed by the garlic. The others are not bad.. just bland.

Very funny you should mention this. As I was driving into work today I drove past Checkers and on their sign they were promoting Wings…..needless to say I almost drove off the road in shock. What the heck is Checkers offering wings for?!?!?!
Per your recommendation I might have to give them a try….
